Tips: Choosing the right loose diamond

Do you know which diamond is just right for your need? Are you now in the spree of buying a great diamond? How do you actually decide which one is just the right one for you? When you choose a diamond, you must make sure you consider the following points, before buying.
  1. Check if the diamond is not a Very Cloudy "NON gem-quality diamond" or, Industrial Diamond
When buying cheap diamonds make sure they are just wearable. You might buy a diamond seeing the low cost price and then find the stone not wearable, make sure you are buying a diamond and not a piece of coal. The seller might say "Hey we shipped you a diamond, we had already mentioned it is a low grade." We have personally noticed these diamonds getting sold on many online website. Be sure you pay a little more and get the right ones instead of getting disappointed later.
  2. Check if the piece you are buying are not among diamond leftovers
In most cases when a diamond is being cut it is always seen that the portion of the diamond that is distorted is not included in the main diamond. Some online websites looking for short-term benefits are now days selling these stones online. Now the buyers who is mostly unaware of these trade secrets often fall prey to these scams.
  3. 15 days, or 30 days return policy
Always check for the right company. It is next to impossible to show the exact image of every diamond a diamond company has due to the number of diamonds that are present. To over come this hurdle and to keep the client satisfied diamond sellers have "15 days" to "30 days" return policy. This helps a buyer see for actual that they got the right diamond, or else they can always return back the diamond.
  4. Paying the right price
Now that you have decided what diamond to buy, make sure you pay the right price for the diamond. Google around, you will find websites online those provide diamond at the best price.
  5. Check for BBB Accreditation and/or other Accreditations
If you are a resident from the US or Canada then you need to be sure the company you are buying from is Accredited especially by BBB. Companies are rated by BBB based on their "commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints.". This makes online sellers very committed to their customers as a bad rating by BBB will cost a severe turn around for them.
  6. Check if the Diamond is certified by a qualified Lab
Now a days there are Diamond Certification Labs like GIA, AGS, EGL which gives a clear report if the diamond is perfect and is naturally extracted. Make sure you ask for it to make the most out of your hard earned investment.
  7. The 4Cs
The 4Cs is a unique world wide accepted grading system first introduced by GIA. You need to make sure
you understand the Carat, Color, Clarity, Cut of the diamond. The better the quality of each C in the diamond, the better is the diamond. To understand more about the 4Cs visit "About the 4Cs" (GIA website)

But how do I find out whether the jeweler is accredited by BBB? Can you please guide me on this?

If you are from US kindy visit http://www.bbb.org/us/bbb-accredited-businesses/ and click on the "Business/Charity Name" that you see in the front and type the Company Name in that. BBB then will list all the companies they know along with their "BBB Accreditation" status.

According to me, it is safer to ask for a GIA lab report. Atleast you will be sure that you have got the real thing! Nice post!

Is it possible that the BBB Accredited companies will also sell Low Quality (Non-Wearable) Diamonds?

No it is not possible for "BBB Accredited companies" BBB is founded in 1912 and has a history of reputation behind it. If they score a company low, the company might need to file a bankruptcy :-)
